Assistant professor of anthropology Kim Jones recently presented a paper at a conference hosted by the American Anthropological Association.

Faculty members Martin Kamela in the Department of Physics, and Aaron Peeks and Kim Jones in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, ran a workshop on Ethical Partnerships in International Service-Learning at the Gulf South Summit on March 4, 2011, in Roanoke, Va.

Dr. Tom Arcaro and junior sociology major Emily Wappes were invited speakers at Twin Lakes Retirement Center on Friday, February 7th. They spoke about "Faith and Politics: the New Atheism's impact on politics" as part of an ongoing enrichment series for residents. To put their comments in context, Wappes and Arcaro presented data from Arcaro's international research on the demographics and views of atheists. A spirited discussion followed their presentation.

Tom Arcaro, a professor of sociology and director of Project Pericles at Elon, and Lauren Taylor '10, a Periclean Scholar during her studies at Elon, presented a talk on Jan. 28, 2011, at Thames Valley University in London.

Elon professors Ken Hassell and Tom Arcaro were part of the Sullivan Social Entrepreneurship Fall Retreat held in Hendersonville, N.C., from Nov. 5-7, 2010.

Elon sociology and global studies students used Skype technology on Oct. 20 to hold a 90-minute conversation with students at Dijlah University College in Baghdad, Iraq. The session was the brainchild of Elon sociology professor Tom Arcaro and Ahmed Fadaam, a sculptor/journalist from Baghdad who has visited Elon in the past.

Angela Lewellyn Jones has been named associate dean of Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, effective June 1.

On April 24, Elon anthropology students Katie Walker and Matt Summers accompanied Rissa Trachman, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology, to volunteer on a state-sponsored archaeology project at historic Alamance Battleground.
