Frank Turek will be speaking at Elon University on Thursday, April 16, presenting evidence for Christianity, cross-examining arguments against it, and answering student’s questions at 7:30 p.m. in LaRose Digital Theatre inside the Koury Business Center.

It was, to be sure, a straightforward audience question during a previous talk: “Are you a Christian?” But as Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. explained March 9 during a visit to Elon, with the way some churches and its members have invoked God’s name “like a Louisville slugger,” his answer is anything but simple.

The Rev. Janet Cooper Nelson, the chaplain of Brown University and director of the Office of the Chaplains & Religious Life, will deliver Elon University’s 2009 Baccalaureate sermon in May.

New Voices, the national Jewish student magazine, included Elon in a Nov. 24 article about the boom in Jewish student enrollment at Southern colleges and universities. The story mentions Elon, Vanderbilt University, Millsaps College, and the University of Charleston as schools that are experiencing rapid Jewish enrollment growth.

Rev. Richard W. McBride, Elon University’s chaplain for a quarter century, will deliver Elon’s 119th Commencement address. Commencement is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 23, Under the Oaks in front of West Residence Hall.

A meditation garden and labyrinth next to Holt Chapel was celebrated this week at College Chapel, where University Chaplain Richard McBride gave thanks to the family of an alumna whose gift in 2007 helped establish the newly completed campus feature.
