Matt Matheny named new head men’s basketball coach

Matt Matheny, a 16-year veteran assistant basketball coach at Davidson College, has been selected to lead Elon's men's basketball program. He was introduced as the 17th head men's basketball coach in Elon history at a March 29 news conference, vowing his goal is to ensure the academic success of the players and at the same time propel Elon to a spot in the NCAA Division I tournament.

Frances Ward-Johnson named to Universal Accreditation Board

Frances Ward-Johnson, an associate professor in the School of Communications, has been named to the Universal Accreditation Board, the leading certification body for the public relations profession. Ward-Johnson was appointed to the board by Public Relations Society of America president Michael Cherenson and Felicia Blow, chair of the UAB.

Half of North Carolinians oppose a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages in the Tar Heel State, according to the latest Elon University Poll, but just one fifth of respondents support full marriage rights for gays and lesbians.
Pam Kiser to serve as interim dean of Elon College

Pam Kiser, Watts-Thompson Professor in the Department of Human Services, has accepted the position of Interim Dean of Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and will start her new role with the university on June 1.

Elon University senior Victoria “Tori” Davis has been named the recipient of a DACOR Bacon House Foundation fellowship for graduate study in international affairs, a $10,000 award that will assist her this fall as she begins work toward a doctorate in political science en route to a career with the U.S. Foreign Service.

Mairs will also spend part of her visit to Elon working with students in a creative writing/nonfiction class.
