Below you will find a schedule of events for Family Weekend 2018. Please note that dates, times, locations and programs are subject to change. Additional events may be added over the coming weeks. The icon guide below may be helpful in determining which events you would like to participate in. Anyone is welcome to attend any of the events listed, however some programs are designed with specific family members in mind. Students are also welcome to join any of the events below, so long as it does not interfere with their class schedule.

Golf Tournament

Indian Valley Golf Course, 1:30 p.m. 
Hosted by the Phoenix Club, the tournament will be a shotgun start. Entry fee ($65 per person) includes greens fee, cart, beverages and award. Participants should plan to spend most of the afternoon on the golf course. Before signing up, please be sure to check with your student on their Friday afternoon class schedule to avoid potential conflicts.

Space for Jummah Prayer

Numen Lumen Pavilion Room 210, 1:30 p.m. 
The Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life has arranged a space and will provide rugs for Jummah prayer.

Check-in and Registration

Alumni Gym, Koury Athletic Concourse, 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Check in and grab your student’s schedule for the faculty meet and greet on Saturday morning, tickets for the football game, tailgate entry and other useful information. Plus, enjoy a fun photo booth and grab a “proud” Elon sticker!

Sustainability Bus Tour

2:00 p.m.
This tour discusses specific sustainability initiatives related to activities at the solar farm and Elon Environmental Center which includes the responsible architecture studio and agricultural farm. Participants depart from and return to the Center for the Arts.

Grandparent Book Club

McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Engage in the campus conversation on this year’s Elon Common Reading book: Something Must be Done about Prince Edward County: A Family, A Virginia Town, a Civil Rights Battle, by Kristen Green. Participants are encouraged to read the book prior to this event.

Information Session: Fraternity and Sorority Involvement

LaRose Digital Theatre, Koury Business Center, 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Is your student interested in joining a fraternity or sorority? Come learn about Elon Fraternity and Sorority Involvement, the community, responsibilities and obligations of membership, and have your recruitment process questions answered.

Koenigsberger Learning Center Dedication

Koenigsberger Learning Center, Belk Library, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
All Elon families and community members are invited to join us as we celebrate the opening of this premier facility for Academic Advising, Learning Assistance and Disabilities Resources. The dedication program will be followed by a reception and an opportunity to tour the building.

Information Session: Global Education and Study Abroad / Study USA

LaRose Digital Theatre, Koury Business Center, 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
If your student is interested in studying abroad or taking advantage of one of Elon’s Study USA programs, join the Global Education Center staff to learn more information about programs, scholarships and resources that Elon has to offer.

Information Session: Student Professional Development Center

LaRose Digital Theatre, Koury Business Center, 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
Learn more about how the Elon Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) assists students and alumni in understanding their career-related interests, individual preferences, strengths and values. Learn helpful information on how the SPDC aids students in understanding how to pursue meaningful internships and careers.

Sklut Hillel Center 5th Anniversary Reception

Sklut Hillel Center, 6:00 p.m.
Join Elon Hillel for an outdoor reception as we celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Sklut Hillel Center, a facility that has transformed the Jewish Life experience on campus! All are welcome, and food and drinks will be provided.

The Music Department Faculty Concert

Whitley Auditorium, 7:30 p.m.
Faculty artists invite Elon families and friends to a mixed program for voice, piano, percussion, wind, brass and strings. This program has become a much-anticipated Family Weekend event since it began in 1999.

SUBCinema

Turner Theatre, Schar Hall, 8:00 p.m.
Enjoy a family-friendly movie in Turner Theatre! Popcorn, candy and soda will be available.

SUBLive – Casino Night

College Street Taphouse, 10:00 p.m.
Feeling lucky? Come to the Taphouse for Casino Night! Try your hand at Blackjack, Texas Hold ‘Em, or press your luck on Roulette. Cash in your chips for raffle tickets to win prizes!

Dr. Connie Ledoux Book, university president, will welcome families and provide a university update.

Yoga on the Lawn

Young Commons, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Join Elon’s Campus Recreation instructors for yoga on the lawn! Our instructors will lead a series of yoga sessions that incorporate balance, strength, flow and relaxation poses. This program is intended for anyone age 12 and up, and is perfect for students and their older siblings!

Faculty Meet and Greet

9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Enjoy informal conversations with your student’s professors and learn more about classes at Elon. Meeting locations are printed on your student’s guide that is available at check-in.

For Grandparents: Fireside Chat on the History of Elon

Great Hall, Global Commons, 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
This year we celebrate 130 years of Elon’s history – an inspiring story of community, resilience and bold innovation. This Fireside Chat will feature special guests, Dr. Jo Watts Williams ’55 and Mona Scott Atkinson ’57 P’96 P’81 GP’20, who will recount Elon’s journey through the years, and the stories that have shaped our institution and defined our traditions.

For Grandparents: Elon Campus Story Tour

11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
Join us for a special campus bus tour just for grandparents. Get an insider’s view of the university and enjoy the beauty of the campus, which is a designated botanical garden and a member of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta. Buses will depart from and return to the Center for the Arts. Golf cart transportation will be available for grandparents from the Center for the Arts to the Family Weekend Tailgate following the conclusion of the tour.

Mini Classes

11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Recipients of the Daniels-Danieley Excellence in Teaching Award and other distinguished faculty and staff will teach these classes. A full list of session topics, descriptions and locations will be provided at check-in.

Dancing in the Landscape

12:00 p.m.
Enjoy the Carolina blue sky, beautiful Elon campus and exquisite dancing by the Elon Dance majors. Audience members will begin in front of the Alamance Building and take a short journey around campus as the dancers perform site-specific choreography. Sponsored by the Department of Performing Arts.

Family Weekend Tailgate

Global Promenade, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Get excited for the football game against the New Hampshire Wildcats at the Family Weekend Tailgate! Enjoy a variety of your favorite tailgate foods, lawn games, music, a caricaturist and much more! (Vegetarian and gluten free options are available with online registration pre-orders.) Tickets should be purchased for all family members, including your Elon student. Children tickets may be purchased for children 12 years and younger. Student meal plans are not able to be honored at this event.

Football Game

Rhodes Stadium, 1:30 p.m.
Cheer on the Phoenix as they take on fellow Colonial Athletic Association member, the New Hampshire Wildcats.

Catholic Mass

Elon Community Church, 5:30 p.m.
Elon Catholic Campus Ministry invites students and families to Mass. Reception to follow.

Alumni Gym, Koury Athletic Center, 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy a continental breakfast with Connie Ledoux Book at Maynard House. Transportation will be provided from McMichael parking lot. The last bus will leave McMichael parking lot at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday Christian Worship

Sacred Space, Numen Lumen Pavilion, 10:30 a.m.
Open to all members of the community, connect with the chaplains and campus ministers and enjoy coffee and light refreshments beginning at 10:30 a.m. The ecumenical, non-denominational worship begins at 11:00 a.m.

Hillel Bagel Brunch

McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Relax, nosh and schmooze at our traditional Family Weekend Bagel Brunch! Join Jewish students, families, faculty and staff for bagels and conversation.
