Four Years to your Health Profession

First Year

  • Join Lincoln Health Professions Society and sign up for our Blackboard website
  • Take introductory Chemistry and/or Biology as needed, depending on your major
  • Get additional information about your specific career
  • Declare a major and get an advisor in that area
  • Begin volunteer service no later than the summer between first and second years; this may be done as a formal internship for credit

 Second Year

  • Continue membership in Lincoln Society
  • Take Organic Chemistry if needed for your major or health profession
  • Continue volunteer service especially in your career area
  • Continue your major courses
  • Examine possible schools and look at admission requirements
  • Investigate internship and/or research experience

Third Year

  • Continue membership in Lincoln Society

Fall Semester

  • Complete any specific requirements for your career area (Physics I, II for PRE- Med, Dent, Vet)
  • Determine Specific schools to which you wish to apply
  • Continue internship and/or research experience
  • Begin prepartion for MCAT, DAT, OAT, GRE, or other tests to be taken in Spring of Junior year or Fall of Senior year as required by your program
  • Continue your major courses

Spring Semester

  • Make final determinations of schools to which you will apply.
  • Continue major courses
  • If PRE- Med, Dent, Vet, etc. School get application packet for a committee letter of evaluation from Health Professions Blackboard sit  or see Dr. Vick – 336-278-6205
  • If PRE- Med, return Application packet to Dr. Vick and give forms to evaluators before Mid Term (this is optional for those interested in other professions)
  • Practice interview skills - take a course or participate in Lincoln Society mock interviews
  • Prepare and polish your personal statement on Why you want to be a ...
  • Take MCAT & other tests
  • All letters of evaluation are due from references by end of the spring semester
  • If PRE- Med get AMCAS worksheet started during spring semester and begin completing as soon as it is available
  • Other professions should get applications as soon as available
  • Have final transcripts sent to application service as soon as available

June

  • If PRE- Med, Dent, or Vet, complete and send in applications ASAP with supporting data

August

  • Retake any required tests at appropriate time
  • If PRE- Med, Dent, Vet prepare for interview in late August or early September

 Fourth Year

  • Continue membership in Lincoln Society
  • If PRE- Med, Dent, Vet come before HPAC for interview in order to have a committee letter of evaluation.
  • Complete major requirements
  • Take GRE
  • Send in applications for Med Tech, PT, PA, etc.
