Elon in New York City Programs

Elon in NYC is a unique opportunity to live, take courses, and intern in one of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the world. The program has something to offer students of every major, and students earn two units toward fulfillment of the Experiential Learning Requirement.

Past internship sites have included: The United Nations, Private Advisor Group, Parsons Dance Company, BMW of Manhattan, AOL Marketplace, Eco18, Viacom, M Public Affairs, Sony Music Entertainment, Sarah Hall Productions, and Penumbra Literary.

Fall and Spring

The the fall and spring programs run for the full semester. In the fall and spring, students take three to four classes at Marymount Manhattan College and are available to intern as their class schedule permits up to 20 hours/week. A New York City seminar is required and fulfills a Civilization requirement. The seminar engages students with various sites and aspects in the city as well as class lectures.

Fall and Spring NYC students are housed in Cooper Square, a Marymount Manhattan College dorm in the East Village. Cooper Square is a 12-story building that is home to more than 250 residents each year in 52 suites. Each bedroom holds up to three residents and is fully furnished with twin beds, desks, armoires, and dressers. The common area in each suite has a small refrigerator, stovetop, and microwave for cooking on your own. Each suite has either two or three bedrooms, with either one or two full bathrooms, depending on the number of residents. All residents have access to fitness room and laundry. A small meal plan of $1500 is required and included in the housing charge.

The summer program runs for 9 weeks. During the summer, students will have class on Mondays and may intern Tuesday-Friday. The class, COR 418-New York City: Living in the Global Community, fulfills the required 4 credit Core Capstone Seminar. The internship course, (BUS 381 or COM 381 or CAS 381), fulfills the 2 credit internship requirement and 1 ELR.

Summer NYC students are housed in a New School dorm in the East Village near the Union Square subway stop.  Accommodations are two bedroom, double occupancy suites with small kitchens (refrigerator, microwave, cooktop) and bathrooms. All residents have access to meeting space, fitness room, and laundry in the basement.
