Study Abroad Program Application Deadlines

Scholarship and Travel Grant Deadlines

An Elon application is required for every Elon study abroad program.  Some programs may also require an additional application in order to be considered for the program.  Below, you will find timelines for submitting your online application for the different study abroad program terms.  All online applications are due by 11:59 pm on the advertised deadline date.

Winter Term Programs

Winter Term 2012

  • March 10 (10 a.m.) - March 17, 2011 (11:59 p.m.) -- online open application period for WT 2012 programs
  • April 1, 2011 -- The ICIC will begin to send notifications via email for all applications received by the March 17 open application deadline.
  • March 18 - mid-September 2011 -- Online applications for WT 2012 programs submitted during this time will be reviewed on a space-available basis.
  • Mid-September 2011 -- final application deadline for WT 2012 programs

First-year students and transfer students are eligible to apply online for Winter Term programs beginning approximately June 1.  Contact studyabroad@elon.edu with any questions.

Other Important Winter Term 2012 Dates

  • September 8, 2011 -- Deposit refund deadline
  • Early September --  WT student passport copies are due to their WT faculty.
  • September 29, 2011 -- Full payment deadline

Semester Programs

Applications for most programs* are accepted one semester in advance of the desired study abroad semester.  To study abroad in the fall, you must submit an application by the advertised deadline (usually mid-February).  To study abroad in the spring, you must submit an application by the advertised deadline (usually mid-September).

*Some semester study abroad programs require applications to be submitted during the summer for spring programs and during winter term for fall programs.  See below for specific deadlines. 

Several semester study abroad programs, including Elon Centre Abroad programs, have priority application deadlines approximately one year in advance.  To study abroad for a spring semester, the priority deadline is during the preceding spring (usually May 1).  For the fall, the priority deadline is during the preceding fall (usually November 1).

Semester Application Deadlines

Spring Semester 2012

  • Mid-April 2011 -- The online application for Spring 2012 semester Elon Centre Abroad programs and other early-deadline programs will be available.
  • May 2, 2011 --  The online application deadline for the following Spring 2012 semester programs:

Deadline Extension - All of the programs below will continue to take applications through the dates listed below on a space-available basis.

  • Spring 2012 Elon Centre Abroad in San José, Costa Rica (September 15, 2011)
  • Spring 2012 Elon Centre Abroad in Florence, Italy (September 15, 2011)
  • Spring 2012 Elon Centre Abroad in London, England (September 15, 2011)
  • Spring 2012 Kenya, Kilmana and Tanzania, Moyo Hill Camp: School for Field Studies (SFS) (August 1, 2011)
  • Spring 2012 Semester at Sea Program (September 15, 2011)
  • Spring 2012 South Africa: Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) (August 1, 2011)
  • Spring 2012 Turks and Caicos Islands: School for Field Studies (SFS) (August 1, 2011)
  • July 1, 2011 -- The online application for all other Spring 2012 semester programs will be available.
  • August 1, 2011 -- The online application deadline for the following Spring 2012 semester programs:
  • Japan, Osaka: Kansai Gaidai University
  • France, Montpellier: UNC in Montpellier Program (NEW!)
  • September 15, 2011 -- The online application deadline for all other Spring 2012 Affiliate and Exchange Programs (excludes programs with earlier deadlines listed above).

Fall Semester 2012

  • October 1, 2011 -- The online application for Fall 2012 Elon Centre Abroad programs, School For Field Studies programs, Organization for Tropical Studies programs, and Semester at Sea will be available.
  • November 1, 2011 -- The online application deadline for the programs listed above.
    • Applications for the above programs will continue to be accepted after November 1 on a space-available basis through February 21, 2012.
  • December 1, 2011 -- The online application for all other Fall 2012 semester programs will be available.
  • January 13, 2012 -- The online application deadline for the UNC in Montpellier Fall 2012 semester program.
  • February 21, 2012 -- The online application deadline for all other Fall 2012 Affiliate and Exchange Programs (excludes programs with earlier deadlines listed above).

Summer Term 2012

  • December 15, 2011 -- The online application for Summer 2012 programs will be available.
  • Februrary 21, 2012 -- online application deadline for all Summer 2012 programs
  • April 1, 2012 -- Deposit refund deadline
  • April 30, 2012 -- Full payment deadline

Non-Elon Programs

Petitions to enroll in a non-Elon study abroad program must be submitted in the ICIC by the following deadlines:

  • Fall and Summer Programs: May 15
  • Spring and Winter Term Programs: December 1
