Winter Term Deadlines

Winter Term 2018

  • March 6 - 11:59 p.m. on March 16, 2017: Priority application period.

  • March 28, 2017: The GEC will begin to send notifications via email for all applications received by priority application deadline.

  • March 30, 2017: New applications will be accepted and reviewed on a space-available basis.

  • Aug. 31, 2017:  Final application deadline for Study Abroad programs. 

  • Sept. 4, 2017: Final deadline for students accepted into a Study Abroad program to complete a cancellation form without losing the $400 deposit, or change into an open program.

  • Sept. 6, 2017: Final deadline for students on a Study Abroad wait list to enroll in an open program.  No students will be moved off of Study Abroad wait lists after this date.

  • Sept. 14, 2017:  Final application deadline for Study USA programs. 

  • Sept. 15, 2017:  Final deadline for students on a Study USA wait list to enroll in an open program.  No students will be moved off of Study USA wait lists after this date.

First-year students and transfer students are eligible to apply online for Winter Term programs as soon as they have been assigned an Elon University ID and email address, which is approximately June 1. Contact global@elon.edu with any questions.


GEC Access Scholarship

All applications for a GEC Access Scholarship are now part of the pre-decision application for all outgoing Study Abroad and Study USA programs as well as Independent Elon Program Abroad (IEPA) and Group IEPA applications. Non-Elon Study Abroad Petitions and Non-Elon Study USA Petitions are not eligible for the GEC Access Scholarship. 

Winter 2018

  • All students that apply by the Priority Period Deadline will be notified in July.
  • All students that apply by the Rolling Period Deadline will be notified in October.

Cancellation Policy

Cancelling your participation in a program can only be done by completing a cancellation form and submitting it to the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center. Students submitting a cancellation form for Winter Term Programs are subject to the following payment schedule:

  • Sept. 4, 2017: Students accepted to Study Abroad programs that cancel after this date will not have the deposit refunded.

  • Sept. 14, 2017:  Students accepted to Study USA programs that cancel after this date will not have the deposit refunded.

  • Oct. 2, 2017: Full payment deadline for Winter Term programs.

  • Oct. 3 - Oct. 9, 2017: Students that cancel within these dates are responsible for 50 percent of the cost of the program.

  • Oct. 10 - Oct. 18, 2017: Students that cancel within these dates are responsible for 75 percent of the cost of the program. 

  • Oct. 19, 2017: Students that cancel on or after this date are responsible for the full program cost.

Note: You are responsible for the costs noted above if you cancel regardless of whether you have paid the program fees at the time of cancellation.

Deposit Refunds - If you have paid the deposit and are cancelling your participation prior to the deposit refund deadline, the amount will remain as a credit on your account to be applied towards the following semester’s billing.  If you have any questions about your deposit, you may contact the Bursar’s office at bursar@elon.edu or 336-278-5300.

*All students are automatically enrolled in a travel insurance policy through iNext, an outside insurance provider. This policy covers students who must cancel their participation due to serious issues of physical health to the student or an immediate family member (parent or grandparent) that occur after October 1. In some instances (evaluated on a case-by-case basis) the travel insurance may insure against changes in mental health. The insurance does not cover any other changes in circumstances such as disciplinary or academic status; job, internship, graduate school or theatrical performance opportunities; leadership opportunities on campus; fear; other personal issues. Students who must cancel their participation after the final day to have the $400 deposit refunded may be able to seek a refund through the travel insurance company.
