May/June Taglit-Birthright trip!

"After much pondering, I can say it was the best experience of my life!"  Harrision Rowe '17

Birthright was an amazing experience, I was ready to go back to Israel the day that we came home. All of the places that they took us on Birthright were great; not only did we learn a lot about our history, but we were able to think critically and form our own opinions about it. Your bus truly becomes your family.... In less than two weeks, a group of complete strangers created almost unbreakable bonds based on their shared experiences. These experiences include everything from early morning hikes to see the sunrise, to late night karaoke sessions, because even though we were exhausted, we didn't want to leave each others' company. I will never forget the unconditional love that I found on Birthright, and this opportunity that I had is something that I will treasure for the rest of my life.  Hannah Wilpon '17

Why go to Israel with Elon & Taglit-Birthright?  Here are quotes from Elon students:

I literally couldn't have imagined 10 days ago how much I would fall in love with my Birthright family and the country and people of Israel. As someone who is not religious and hasn't been connected with Hillel at Elon, I was somewhat nervous about going on Birthright and feared that I would be judged for my lack of involvement or simply just not fit in. My experience couldn't have been farther from that. Bus 1084 was the most welcoming and free-spirited environment I think I have ever been in. Our whole experience was about being connected, knowledgeable, and aware of Israel. Not only did I learn about Israel in a historic and cultural sense, but there was a lot of self-reflection and "soul searching" that I really felt helped center me.... I've learned that being Jewish creates a special bond between people and I feel so happy and fortunate to be a part of that.

I am so appreciative of the people who made this experience possible for me....this really was a life-changing experience for me. I know that I will go back to Israel, hopefully in the near future, and I have Birthright, Elon Hillel, and my heritage to thank for that.  Kendall Gardiner '14

So Birthight was definitely one of the most life changing, incredible experiences of my life. I never expected that within my first two days in Israel, everyone on my bus would feel like family.  The Israeli soldiers who joined us halfway through our trip instantly became part of our family. It was hard not to cry when they left us.
The program itself was jam packed.

We were constantly on the move and doing various activities. My personal favorites were kayaking in the Jordan River, Hiking Masada, and camping out in tents in the Desert. There were also very spiritual moments such as when the soldiers led us in singing the Hatikva on Mount Hertzel.  Sam Ackerman '16

I just wanted to thank you so much for....allowing me to join this years Birthright group.... It was by far one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had! The places were beautiful and the people were amazing.  Israel was so amazing that I am going to see what I can do about living there for a little bit once college concludes. This trip went above and beyond any expectations I could have even imaginedJamie Buyer '13

I was really surprised by my emotions at the Western Wall because I didn't really know what it was or why people went to it before we got there. But when I was standing there with my hands on it and saw how many people were there and thought about how for centuries my people had wanted to get to that point and the stories the wall had seen, I started to cry.   It was the best experience of my life and I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to go.   Arielle Weil '14

As for the trip, Israel was incredible. I can honestly say I grew dramatically as a person from the experience. I loved it so much that I extended my trip for an additional week. I can't wait to go back. I made friends all over the country, bonded with the IDF soldiers I was paired with, and grew on a spiritual level as well. I feel a much stronger connection with my Jewish identity now. And I know more. The entire trip really gave me some perspective on my life and my family's traditions.

I feel enlightened beyond belief. I highly recommend that any Elon student that is Jewish go on this trip, not only to go to the Holy Land but also to grow as a person. This was just he sort of life altering moment I needed as I prepare for graduate school.  David Magida '10
