Scholarship Programs

The Leon and Lorraine Watson North Carolina Scholarship Program

The Watson Scholarship is designed for promsing North Carolina students who demonstrate significant fincancial need.

Selection Criteria:

  • Be Nother Carolina residents who have attended a North Carolina high school for one or more years and will graudate from a North Carolina high school.
  • Have a solid record of academic acheivement.
  • Are the first of their families to attend college.
  • Reside in a school district with an above-average concentration of low-income families.
  • Have achieved success despite hardship or unusual challenge.
  • Will bring cultural or socioeconomic diversity to the university.
  • Exhibit excellent potential to benefit from the opportunities of an Elon education and the Watson scholarship program. 

Scholarship:

Eight $10,000 awards, including Watson Scholarship funding, will be awarded annually.  The Watson Scholarship also includes a $4,000 study abroad grant, which may be used for a university-approved study abroad experience.

The Honorable Thad Eure North Carolina Achievement Scholarship

The Honorable Thad Eure Scholsrship honors North Carolina's former Secretary of State who served as an Elon trustee for 47 years. 

Selection Criteria:

  • Reside in Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Durham, Forsyth, Gates, Guilford, Orange, Person, Randolph, Rockingham or Wake counties and graduate from a North Carolina high school.
  • Have a strong record of academic acheivement and leadership through school, church or community organizations.
  • Demonstrate verified financial need (with preference given to Pell eligible students).

Scholarship:

Three $12,000 Eure Scholarships will be awarded each year.  The Eure Scholarship also includes a $4,000 Elon Experiences grnat, which may be used for a university-approved study abroad, intenrship, research, service or leadership experience.
