For Incoming Freshmen
Pre-SERVE is a one-week service experience
in July for incoming freshmen. Students spend the week living on campus
while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Club, and
other service agencies. The experience allows freshmen to meet other students
and become familiar with the area before the start of the school year.
(Program involves an application process and registration fee of $200
for those who are accepted.)
Elon's Service Learning Community is a residential option for students
interested in community service. Forty-one students live together
on the third floor of Chandler Hall for their freshman year. Selected
students come to campus two days early for a special SLC orientation before
participating in regular new student orientation. Members participate
in service projects, community activities, social functions and reflection
sessions throughout the year.
Students have the option of taking a Winter Term Service Learning class
designed specifically for the SLC. Students still have plenty of free
time to be involved in any other campus activities outside of the Service
Learning Community.
