The veteran reporter will lead a Feb. 27 presentation highlighting his most recent investigation into the most important yet most overlooked commodity in the world: sand.
Award-winning journalist Vince Beiser, whose reporting is funded by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, will host a lecture in the School of Communications on Monday, Feb. 27. The veteran reporter will present “An International Journalist’s Journey to Cover the Deadly Global War for Sand” at 4:15 p.m. in the screening room of McEwen Communications Building.
The Los Angeles-based journalist plans to discuss his extensive reporting career, including his Pulitzer Center-supported investigation into the most important yet most overlooked commodity in the world: sand. The School of Communications and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting are co-sponsoring the hourlong lecture and subsequent Q&A session.
During his career, Beiser has hunted down stories around the globe for some of the most recognizable publications in the world, including The New York Times, Wired magazine, Harper’s, Rolling Stone and The Atlantic. He has exposed conditions in California’s harshest prisons, trained with troops bound for Iraq, and ridden with first responders to disasters in Haiti and Nepal.
His work has been recognized by Investigative Reporters and Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Columbia, Medill and Missouri Graduate Schools of Journalism, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies and many other institutions.

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting is a nonprofit journalism organization in Washington, D.C. The center supports independent journalists who cover international topics that are under-reported by traditional media outlets.
