Bullock named a member of Deans for Impact

School of Education Dean Ann Bullock was among eight new members announced this week for the group that advises and designs programming for teacher education programs.

Ann Bullock, dean of the Elon School of Education, has been named a member of Deans for Impact, joining a national network of leaders committed to transforming how this country prepares future educators.

“Our members are a selective group of proven leaders who want to create a vision for system-wide change. Deans for Impact is proud to foster this movement every step of the way by creating and empowering networks of leaders from diverse contexts who want to work together to ensure every student is taught by a well-prepared teacher,” said Benjamin Riley, founder and executive director of Deans for Impact.

Bullock is one of eight new members announced today, bringing the total membership in Deans for Impact to 22. This small group works collaboratively together to advise and design programming that today reaches over 130 additional leaders and 27,000 teacher-candidates.

According to Deans for Impact, nearly 200,000 new teachers graduate from U.S. preparation programs each year, and many feeling unprepared to teach in classrooms of their own. As a group, Deans for Impact are spearheading innovative improvement efforts within their own programs and across the field.

“Joining Deans for Impact allows me to collaborate with a network of leaders who share my commitment to improving teacher preparation and want to identify a common vision for what that looks like,” Bullock said.

Bullock’s selection as a member of Deans for Impact follows a one-year fellowship with the group Bullock has participated in during the past year.

Deans for Impact is committed to building equitable and inclusive communities that are diverse by design. The programs led by the eight new members are located in urban, suburban, and rural geographies; they are public, private, and alternative, within minority-serving Institutions and at predominately white Institutions.

Founded in 2015, Deans for Impact is a national nonprofit organization that empowers leaders at all levels of educator preparation who are committed to transforming the field and elevating the teaching profession.
