Two Documentaries, Two Extraordinary Women – Oct. 25

Turner Theatre | 7:30 p.m.

Assistant Professors Nicole Triche and J McMerty will host screenings of their recent documentaries in Turner Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The films will be shown back to back beginning at 7:30 p.m.

In “All Skate, Everybody Skate,” Triche examines the life of Doris Jenkins and the role her 53-year-old roller skating rink played – and continues to play – in its Topsail Beach, N.C., community. The 19-minute documentary has been screened at several festivals, including the 2017 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham. McMerty’s documentary, “A Year with Betty Gold,” follows the renowned abstract California artist as she shares her insights on love and life while pulling back the curtain on the struggles of a contemporary artist. She began her career at a time when women were locked out of the art market — and rose to international prominence. The full-length film has been selected for the 2017 Mallorca International Film Festival in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

There will be a Q&A session after the screenings with the filmmakers.
