Jacqueline Alnes and Rob Shapiro win awards for poetry

Two English majors have won awards for their poetry.

Jacqueline Alnes had three poems accepted for publication and performance at the Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival in Cary, N.C. on April 14. This contest was open to anyone who writes poetry.

Rob Shapiro’s poem was selected for second place in the Anthony Abbott Undergraduate Poetry Contest, a competition that was open to all undergraduates in North Carolina. He will read his award-winning poem at the Charlotte Writers’ Club on April 16.

Also, for two consecutive years Shapiro was a finalist in N.C. State’s Poetry Contest that was open to any poet from North Carolina who has not published a book.
