Elon alumnus featured in Business Journal article

Peter Ustach '09, co-owner of The Fat Frogg and Pandora’s Pies, was one of three young entrepreneurs featured by the Business Triad Journal of the Greater Triad in a recent article.

The article, titled “Does studying entrepreneurship teach about the real world?” examines how entrepreneurship lessons learned in the classroom translate into the real-life experiences that come with owning a business.

Ustach, a business administration major, said in the article that the most useful lesson he learned at Elon was the importance of planning, something he learned when he launched Elon Laundry thanks to a $600 loan and a university-approved business plan.

“Getting that experience in college put me ahead of the game,” he is quoted as saying. “A lot of kids who may come from money feel like, ‘well, I’ve got $100,000 to start with, let’s get going,’ but that’s the worst thing you can do. You really have to look at all the outlying factors.”

Ustach was one of 10 alumni recognized in April during the annual Top 10 Under 10 awards, which recognizes alumni of the past decade who have enjoyed major professional success, made a big difference in their community and are loyal Elon  supporters.
