Author Blanca Zendejas Nienhaus will be at the event to discuss the book. Copies will be available for purchase.
Partial proceeds will go to support the Hogares Sanos project, which was established by the Periclean Scholars Class of 2013 and will be continued by the Class of 2014.
About the book
In this book, a young immigrant woman from the Mexican state of Chiapas shares the story of how, as a young girl, she was brought to North Carolina by her mother so the family could be reunited. In these pages she bares her soul to the reader. We feel her innocence as a young child, her fear as she and her family make their difficult journey, and her mixed emotions as she begins her new life in the shadows, undocumented, yet in a land she is coming to feel her own.
