First-Generation College Celebration
First-Generation College Celebration
November 8th was selected as the date for the annual National First-Generation College Celebration to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Since 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-generation Student Success launched the inaugural First-Generation College Celebration. To honor this day, colleges and universities around the country host events related to the first-generation identity. Elon has hosted celebration events since 2019.
2023 Celebration: To Be First
November 2nd-11th, 2023
About the Theme: To Be First
All of the events this year centers around exploration and reflection around what it means to be a First-Generation College Student. The events this year will provide an opportunity for first-generation students to reflect on that question and feel celebrated. For those who are not first-generation, it will provide an opportunity for them to reflect on who was the person(s) close to them that were first to go to college.
As we gear up for our 5th First-Generation College Celebration, we are excited to announce our theme of “To Be First”. To be first means to take a leap of faith, not knowing what is at the end of the tunnel but knowing that it will be something greater than ever imagined.
