OEG 2 – To ensure SPT Faculty are committed to excellence to Elon’s teacher-scholar-mentor model
Measure 1 SPT strives to meet or exceed the average Student Perceptions of Teaching (SPOT) scores of Elon University faculty on the majority of the instruction measures. Data will be compared annually. Fall 2024 SPoT data indicated that Sport Management (SPT) faculty performed above the University average on all 13 instructional measures. However, one area for improvement emerged: the item “the instructor gave feedback that helped me learn” received lower scores for one or two faculty members. The SPT Department Chair will follow up individually to discuss strategies for providing timely and meaningful feedback. Faculty will also be encouraged to utilize resources from the Center for Teaching and Learning to enhance their approach to delivering high-quality, actionable feedback. *Spring 2025 scores are currently unavailable. 3
Measure 2 Elon faculty are actively engaged in scholarship (as defined by the School of Communications Scholarly Statement) 78% of the SPT faculty either participated in at least one peer-reviewed presentation and/or had an accepted peer-reviewed publication. 3
Measure 3 Elon faculty are actively engaged in service activities (as defined by the School of Communications Service Statement) All of the SPT faculty (9) participated in university service at the department, school and/or university level. 3
Measure 4 Senior Survey: 70% of all seniors will report “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with faculty mentoring in our major 86% of seniors (n=19) were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with faculty mentoring in our major.

*Note: Data captured from Fall 2024 cannot be located due to a technology issue.

OEG 3 – Engage alumni and industry professionals in activities that enhance the Department of Sport Management
Measure 1 Assessment of annual alumni and/or industry professional campus visits and involvement in: class presentations; Homecoming programming; and in-class video calls The Department of SPT continues to enhance alumni engagement. Several methods are employed to capture alumni, including the SPT Alumni Survey, points of contacts via social media, and ongoing invitations to return to all SPT related activities. The Sport Experience in Charlotte has generated exceptional alumni relations opportunities, which we hope to increase in the coming years.

Industry professionals are actively engaged in all our classes throughout the year, along with annual events (Sport Management Symposium, WINS). Finally, industry professionals are represented on the School of Communications Advisory

Board.

3
Measure 2 Dissemination of Information to Alumni The School of COM sends out 3-4 newsletters annually – to all COM students (including SPT). The school also distributes an annual report each year. 3
Measure 3 Assessment of alumni survey results (every 5 years) The survey was distributed during the 2021-2022 academic year and will be redistributed during the 2026-2027 academic year. N/A
OEG 4 – To become a national leader in sport management education
Measure 1 Actively engage in scholarship around sport management education, in particular high impact practices Our faculty remained actively engaged in professional development throughout the year. In 2024-2025, SPT faculty have:

– A faculty member presented at the COSMA Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, focusing on the integration of leadership education as a high-impact practice in Sport Management. She shared initial findings from a collaborative study and addressed the COSMA Board, highlighting the Charlotte Sport Experience and exploring opportunities for cross-institutional collaboration.

– A faculty member published a chapter titled “Sport Management Themed Living Learning  Communities: Enhancing the Academic and Social Development of College Students” in Innovative Pedagogical Practices in Sport Management Education.

Measure 2 Receive COSMA accreditation Completed – Received Accreditation February 2023

We hope to receive COSMA reaccreditation when the time comes.

*Change Measure 2 to Leadership in COSMA

3
Measure 3 Annual review of SPT curriculum Implementation of the new curriculum began in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Sport and Society class approved and designated AER. Faculty created an upper-level Sport Analytics course that was designated data-intensive and will be offered Fall 2025. This also helps support the data competency badge students can earn.

3
OEG 5 – Achieve goals associated with the Department of Sport Management Five-Year Strategic Plan
Measure 1 SPT strives to achieve 90% of the goals stated in our 5-Year Strategic Plan Our most recent strategic plan began spring of 2023. Currently, all goals are on track to be completed. Please see the strategic plan. 3
