Priorities

  1. Explore concerns with university committees
    1. Engagement, expectations, disparities, etc.
    2. Committee definitions and functions
    3. Inconsistencies in membership voting/selection process for Academic Council, University Curriculum Committee, and Promotion & Tenure Committee
    4. Document all advisory committees.
    5. Consider need for new standing committees
  2. Internal campus communications
    1. Review of processes by which faculty are involved in and receive communications about the university
    2. Use of faculty/staff emails. Are there better ways such as a daily digest email?
    3. Alternative ways to use E-net?
    4. Comparisons to external communications strategies
  3. Support working group focused on assessing and documenting effective, high quality teaching as defined in the faculty handbook
  4. Continue exploration of promotion and tenure process
    1. Focus on P&T Committee’s report from 2015-16
    2. Consider need for a task force or other formal mechanism moving forward
  5. Continue Support for Post-probationary Faculty Working Group
  6. Continue Task Force on Department Chairs
  7. Investigate Support Staff with Faculty Rank designation
    1. Consider name change
    2. Future status of this type of employee?
    3. Membership on standing committees?
  8. Ongoing work to update and maintain accuracy with the Faculty Handbook

Other Concerns

  1. Pre-departure courses for winter-term study abroad. Does there need to be a uniform way in which they are taught, times offered, structure, etc.?
  2. Mid-term grade policy
  3. Credit hour definition: why the range in numbers for different types of courses? Also the difference in contact hours to credit hours vs. contact hours to faculty load hours.
  4. Need for a better repository for Academic Council and/or Committee on Committees (possibly also standing committee) materials beyond what’s available on Moodle?
  5. Concern about lowering enrollment in some CORE and Arts and Sciences courses potentially due to study abroad programs, transfer credits, high school AP courses, etc.
  6. Examine issues surrounding the identity of the Arts at Elon
  7. Experiential Learning Requirement
