High expectations, close support

The Engineering & Computing Fellows program is a selective, merit-based program for engineering and computer science majors. The program offers an even more immersive experience alongside a cohort of academically driven students seeking deeper challenges and expanded opportunities to lead, think critically and make a lasting impact.

Program highlights

Fellows collaborate with peers and faculty to take on real problems, gain hands-on experience and become leaders in their fields.

Collaborative Learning

Work alongside faculty and fellow students to strengthen your problem-solving skills through coursework and shared experiences.

Peer Mentorship

Learn from other Fellows and share your own experience by serving as a peer mentor to students who follow you.

Leadership Development

Develop your leadership skills through dedicated training and opportunities that put those skills into practice across campus.

Research & Service

Apply what you learn through research and service-learning experiences that connect your education with meaningful challenges.

School Engagement

Represent and support the school as a student ambassador at open houses, Fellows Weekend and other recruitment events.

Academic Achievement

Make consistent academic progress while completing your major and the Elon Core Curriculum coursework and maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Program structure

Over four years, your role in the Fellows community grows with you. You begin with support from an upper-level peer mentor, pursue a faculty-guided experience in research, leadership, service or an internship, then mentor younger Fellows and help lead the school community.

Year One and Two

Build your academic skills through introductory coursework, hands-on experiences and a supportive community of Engineering and Computing Fellows. You’ll participate in Elon 1010 alongside other engineering and computer science majors and be paired with a third-year Fellow who will serve as your mentor, offering guidance on academic and campus life throughout your first four semesters.

Year Three and Four

Advance through your major while focusing on professional development and putting your skills into practice. You’ll pursue a service project, research opportunity, internship or leadership experience under the guidance of a faculty mentor, with up to $500 available to support your work. You’ll also take on a mentoring role, sharing your experience and guidance with a first- or second-year Fellow.

Tracks

In your third and fourth years, you’ll choose one of three tracks: Leadership, Internship/Research or Education/Service. Each combines practical experience with guided reflection and a final presentation, giving you a focused way to develop your skills and demonstrate what you’ve accomplished.
