Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Elon’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program prepares students for the initial licensure exam and future nursing careers. Our curriculum offers a balance of traditional coursework with hands-on experiences in our in-house skills lab and simulation center, clinical settings, community centers and more. This program will provide students with a foundational knowledge base, enabling client-centered care across the lifespan and the health-wellness-illness continuum.

Completion of the nursing program will prepare students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a licensed, registered nurse (RN).

This degree is offered two formats:

BSN Program

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Elon University is a 4 year pre-licensure program that provides future nurses with the knowledge, skills, experiences and global thinking to succeed and thrive in today’s ever-changing health care landscape.

Program Highlights

  • Traditional, four-year undergraduate program, typically for high school graduates
  • The curriculum is built to allow the pursuit of a biology minor
  • Students will complete 65 nursing course hours, in addition to Elon Core Curriculum and prerequisite courses.
  • 540 clinical hours completed by graduation in first-rate area hospitals, schools and clinics
  • Winter term study abroad opportunities are possible

ABSN Program

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) prepares future nurses through an intensive, 16-month post-baccalaureate program that includes 65 credit hours and 540 clinical hours.

Program Highlights

  • BSN to be completed in 16 months starting in fall and finishing the following December
  • Students will complete 65 total semester hours
  • 540 clinical hours completed by graduation in first-rate area hospitals and clinics
  • Distinctive coursework in health care relationships, health equity, crucial conversations in health care, and evidence-based practice
  • State-of-the-art facilities and simulation spaces
  • Interprofessional education opportunities with physical therapy and physician assistant students
