I. University Commitment to Diversity and Global Engagement
Develop the Center for Access and Success at Elon including the Watson and Odyssey programs, the Elon Academy and the Village Project, to support limited income and first-generation students
Finalize a strategy to assure that 100% of Elon students have access to a global experience either domestically or abroad
Develop more robust civic engagement curricular and co-curricular experiences for students to learn and practice the skills and habits of democratic citizenship, including dialogues and public debates on campus, political and social issues
Expand ADL Campus of Difference program by creating certified students, faculty and staff to facilitate workshops across campus
Enhance programs and action plans to support Black/African American, Gender and LGBTQ, Hispanic/Latino/a, multiracial and emerging demographic groups on campus
Enhance and support curricular and pedagogical diversity infusion through diversity themed Winter Term, mini-grant opportunities, and resources for facilitating difficult discussions related to differences
Continue work with Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) to expand the student interfaith leadership program, develop assessment tools, and further develop the Center for the Study of Religion, Culture and Society through a search for a director
Continue development of Study USA programs, conducting a successful search for a director and creating proposals for expansion of programming
Develop stronger international partnerships in China and India to advance global education programming
Develop plan for supporting non-native speakers of English in writing, speaking, and reading with the goal of increasing international student enrollment
Support completion of ADA compliance audit and develop actions steps for Academic Affairs based on findings.
II. Supporting a World Class Faculty and Staff
Set and publicize a specific timeline and targets for the faculty/staff salary plan
Identify and develop means for assessing quality of work-life balance within and across University units, and initiate assessment process
Explore enhanced faculty sabbatical program and develop programming and budget recommendations; and review staff professional leave opportunities
Plan for successful implementation of Fulbright UK-faculty exchange program in the Fall of 2014
Conduct and successfully complete search for the Dean of the School of Law
Complete review and revisions to the Law School Faculty Handbook
Complete successful transition in Provost’s Office (Associate VP to Associate Provost)
Develop and implement a plan for providing leadership for the School of Education
Develop policy and procedures for collecting annual feedback on a wider range of academic administrators (e.g., associate provosts and associate deans)
III. Attaining the Highest Levels of Achievement across Our Academic Programs
Finalize and begin the implementation of the strategic plan for the School of Law
Conduct successful law school ABA and AALS reviews
Prepare for Successful Reaccreditation with AACSB
Develop a proposal for enhancing academic challenge and the intellectual environment on campus, including exploration of double majors and dual degrees, campus spaces, residential campus programing, scholarly talks, curriculum, and pedagogy
Launch the Center for Engaged Learning and key year-one initiatives, including the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) conference, Writing Transfer conference, and the third Elon Research Seminar on Undergraduate Research Mentoring
Implement year-one of the Writing Excellence Initiative
Formulate a strategy to incorporate emerging teaching and learning technologies in support of Elon’s commitment to engaged learning, including flipped, blended, and online courses
Implement recent curricular changes to the ELR, First Year Core, and GST interdisciplinary capstone seminar
Introduce proposals and advising materials to retitle and reframe the GST program
Develop a thorough proposal to broaden and deepen foreign language instruction and learning, including: focused advising, departments considering additional foreign language requirements, more accurate placement testing, and new study abroad centers
Assess the impact of change to Colonial Athletic Association on students and academics, and develop a plan for addressing impact
Implement new leadership programs that expand student leadership opportunities and deepen academic connections and experiences. Create a new leadership prize to support juniors who engage in mentored leadership research/projects.
Finalize study and begin implementation of data enhancements, such as mining warehouse package
Create copyright use policy and procedures for Elon’s campus
Execute next steps in the Academic Support and Advising strategic plan, with a focus on creating four-year academic plans by major, piloting a residential academic advising fellow, revising the Elon 101 TA program into a peer-mentor model, and transitioning the major declaration process to an electronic, online format
Prepare the university for a fall 2014 launch of a fully integrated residential and academic experience.
Assess pilot of residential-academic neighborhood plans.
Craft communications to support the new residential campus.
Assess the impact of increased faculty and staff member engagement within residential neighborhoods, including the new faculty affiliates program.
IV. Launching Strategic and Innovative Pathways in Undergraduate and Graduate Education
Conduct and complete feasibility study for a four- or five-year major in Engineering, including curriculum, staffing, admissions, facilities, and budget
Assess outcomes from the GAP program and make recommendations for improvement
Assess Transfer Student transitions and develop proposal for enhancing transfer student success
Lead campus conversations on development of additional graduate programs within the context of the Elon Commitment strategic plan
Develop proposals for new Love School of Business programs, including MS in Business Analytics, MS in International Business, and a hybrid MBA
Complete planning for and initiate Love School of Business and School of Law joint JD/MBA and cooperative Institute for Entrepreneurship and Business Law
Conduct and complete feasibility studies for Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) and Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP)
VI. Developing Innovative Alumni Programs to Advance and Support the Elon Graduate
Celebrate Elon’s 125th anniversary with special events and communications designed to build pride, educate the community about the university’s rich history, and reinforce community spirit and aspirations for Elon’s future
Collect and publish “students’ stories” related to their Elon Experience
Expand and develop Life@Elon to better meet needs in the community and to involve alumni
Develop formal systems to clearly define, track, and support alumni roles, and to support alumni through a career services advising program
Develop a formal on-campus employment office that better coordinates service to supervisors, increases access to on-campus jobs to all students, and grows the PACE work study program
Expand the model for career programming and employment preparation of students for both international and domestics-to-international careers, developing a Career Fellow position focused on supporting international career programming
VIII. Significantly Enhance Elon’s Campus with Premier New Academic and Resident Facilities and a Commitment to Protecting Our Environment
Investigate methods for room and event scheduling to better use campus resources
Assess and finalize plans for spaces vacated through moves to the Global Neighborhood (e.g., Carlton)
Assess facilities needs for natural sciences, and develop short- and long-term proposal for addressing needs and supporting excellence
Support planning for development of new/remodeled campus facilities
