Educational Advantages

  • Tuition Exchange – Elon participates in a tuition exchange program that enables dependents of faculty/staff to enroll in partnering schools. This program is open to the dependents of all full-time faculty and staff who have completed two or more years of full-time service at Elon University by Sept. 1 of the academic year for which they are applying.
  • Tuition Remission – Employees working 30-40 hours/week may enroll in two courses at Elon per semester tuition-free. Employees working 20-29 hours per week may enroll in one course tuition-free per semester. The spouse/qualifying partner and eligible children of an eligible employee qualifies for partial or full remission of tuition payments for courses taken at the University based upon the length of service of the employee.
  • Public Student Loan Forgiveness Program – Elon University is a qualified employer for the PSLF Program, which forgives the remaining balance on federal Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying payments while working full-time.

Cultural and Community Advantages

  • Athletics Events – The Phoenix athletics program includes 17 intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports in NCAA Division I (FCS football). Admission is free to most athletics events with your Phoenix Card.
  • College Coffee – The Elon community meets each Tuesday morning during the academic year for College Coffee, a treasured tradition that provides a time to chat with your colleagues, make new connections, learn about resources and opportunities, and of course, enjoy a cup of coffee.
  • Cultural Events – Elon presents a broad offering of academic and special programs every semester. Events include musical and theatrical performances, guest and faculty lectures, religious and ethnic observances, recitals, art exhibitions, special entertainment and other events. Admission is free to most events with your Phoenix Card.
  • Leadership and Professional Development – The Office of Leadership and Professional Development (OLPD) offers an array of programming opportunities open to all university employees. This office facilitates various workshops throughout the month and can work with you on achieving your professional development goals.
  • Library – Faculty and staff may check out books (including audio books), DVDs and other materials from the Belk Library using their Phoenix Card.

  • Aromatherapy/Relaxation Room – The aromatherapy program is designed to provide a serene, soothing and relaxing room to give employees a stress-free break. This space is located next to the Faculty/Staff Wellness Department in the RN Ellington Health Center and includes a comfortable massage chair, soothing sounds and diffused aromatherapy in a private space for you to unwind and de-stress.
  • Campus Recreation & Wellness – Campus Recreation & Wellness (RecWell) provides a variety of recreational and educational facilities, programs, and services across five program areas: Facilities, Student Wellness Programs, Fitness Programs, Sport Programs, and Experiential Learning & Outdoor Adventures. A wide variety of group exercise classes that are free to faculty and staff are offered. And staff of certified personal trainers can work with you individually (or with a partner) to meet your fitness and wellness goals.
  • Employee Assistance Program – Elon Work-Life Resources is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) program that provides university employees (and their families) access to confidential, caring support to address a variety of personal or professional issues. This resource is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at no charge.
  • Exercise Classes – Faculty/Staff Health & Wellness offer a variety of exercise and movement classes exclusively for faculty and staff. These classes are free and are usually offered before/after work or during lunch hours.
  • HealthEU – Elon University uses the Act-Belong-Commit (ABC) framework to further our commitment to positive physical and mental health. The ABC model urges people to be active, search for a sense of belonging and commit to a cause to promote happiness and good mental health.
  • Lactation Spaces on Campus – The University encourages faculty, staff and supervisors to have a positive, accepting attitude toward working women and breastfeeding. Elon promotes and supports breastfeeding and the expression of breast milk by faculty and staff who are providing breast milk to their infants when they return to work.
  • Massage Therapy – Alamance Therapeutic Massage offers discounted rates for employees.
  • Mindfulness for Faculty & Staff – This opportunity for members of the Elon community to gather and share personal stories, listen to live performances and enjoy coffee and refreshments is held every Thursday during the academic year. The power of mindfulness is designed to improve self-regulation, enhance social relationships in the workplace, make employees more resilient in the face of challenges and increase task performance.
  • Smoking Cessation – Elon partners with Cone Health to offer QuitSmart® classes for those wanting to kick the smoking habit.
  • Workplace Ergonomics – Elon’s workstation evaluation team will conduct ergonomic evaluations to identify workstation design or working conditions that may contribute to discomfort or injury. This service is free to all University employees.
  • Work-Life Resources – The Elon Work-Life Resources program is offered in partnership with McLaughlin Young. Through this partnership, Elon faculty, staff and families can receive confidential counseling services, help with work-life solutions (e.g., finding childcare), legal guidance and financial advice.

Work/Life Advantages

  • Faculty Ombudsperson – Our faculty ombudsperson is a safe, neutral, and confidential resource for the Elon community in exploring options to resolve problems, complaints, or conflicts.
  • Jury Duty – Full pay for jury or subpoenaed witness duty.
  • LinkedIn Learning – Elon has partnered with LinkedIn Learning to offer more than 10,000 on-demand courses through their extensive video library. Learn from industry experts about business, technology, and creative topics to help achieve your personal and professional goals.
  • Parental School Leave – Full-time and introductory employees may take up to four (4) hours of unpaid leave each calendar year to attend a school function or meeting.
  • Parking – Employees park for free on campus. All faculty, staff, and students who wish to park on campus must register for a parking permit. Each permit includes letters that show your designated lots and can be found on the University’s campus parking map.
  • Staff Ombudsperson – Our staff ombudsperson is a safe, neutral, and confidential resource for the Elon community in exploring options to resolve problems, complaints or conflicts.
  • Volunteer Hours – All regular full-time employees are eligible for up to 16 hours of paid volunteer service leave each year. The Kernodle Center inspires, educates, and prepares students and campus to partner with diverse communities to address local and global challenges, and gain a deeper understanding of their responsibility to actively contribute to civic life. The center serves as the convener of community-based engaged and experiential student learning opportunities in collaboration with faculty, staff, and community partners to address the common good.
