Community Service

Community service is positive way to engage students and support the local community.  The Kernodle Center for Civic Life maintains strong and collaborative relationships with local community agencies and partners.  Visit with them in Moseley 232 for assistance in identifying an organization or cause that is meaningful to your organization members and setting up opportunities for service activities.

Elon Volunteers! (EV!), a team of student leaders, provide opportunities for students to engage in service through regular programs, one-time events, and Alternative Breaks.  These experiences allow students to face pressing social issues in the local, national, and international communities. This is a positive way of strengthening relationships while helping to better the community. More information can be found at Elon Volunteers!

Mentoring

Mentoring can be a positive way to make a student feel included and make valuable friendships. Responsibilities can include teaching the new member about the values of the organization, supporting the new member’s participation and academic performance, encouraging meaningful involvement in areas they are passionate about, and helping connect them with other mentors to ensure a positive experience during their time at Elon.

Entertainment

The Burlington and Greensboro areas offer many different avenues of entertainment. Have a movie night, go out to dinner, shop, play a sport, watch a sporting event, attend a festival, or just have a fun hang out night.  Visit Student Involvement (Moseley 205) for more information on what’s happening around campus.

Rituals

Hold formal initiation rites that have a quality of solemnity. Formal attire and symbolic actions (e.g., taking an oath or signing a document) may be integrated into the ritual.  Invite alumni to address the new member group as part of the initiation.  Have representatives from the new member group speak about the meaning of their experience and hopes for the future.

Athletic Competitions

Create an intramural team with new and current members.  Put together a pick-up game with members from all four classes on teams together – this builds bonds and great memories within the whole organization!

We have some incredible varsity teams!  Check out the Elon Phoenix schedules and plan to go as a class or a whole group!

Outdoor challenges

Elon Outdoors gives students several opportunities to experience nature outside of campus. Program offerings include canoeing, climbing, kayaking, hiking, white water rafting, sailing, and others! These different options can be found on the Elon Outdoors website.

Share Common Activities

Community building is an important aspect in the Elon experience. This could be studying, watching Netflix, playing games, or getting food.
