Boyle to host poetry reading at alma mater

Kevin Boyle, professor of English, will read from his book of poetry, “A Home for Wayward Girls,” during a reading Friday, July 22 in Iowa City, Iowa, home of the University of Iowa. Boyle is an IU graduate, earning a master’s degree and doctorate degree.

Although Boyle has published a chapbook and his poems have appeared in numerous journals, “A Home for Wayward Girls” is his first book. “In a sense I’ve been working on this book since I started writing poems, which was sophomore year in college,” Boyle says. “It feels good to finally have them published.” The book earned the 2004 New Issues Poetry Prize.

In April, Boyle received the Excellence in Scholarship Award from Elon College, the college of arts and sciences.

Boyle’s reading will take place at 9 p.m. EDT, July 22. The reading will be broadcast on university radio station WSUI, and can be heard live on the station’s Web site below:
