New Summer Course on ESL/EFL Teaching

Interested in teaching English abroad? Planning to teach in the public schools in the U.S.? Around the World in 22 Days (ENG 270-OL) is for you!

During this Summer Session 1 Online Course, we’ll explore how policies and practices for language teaching are rhetorically situated; that is, they are influenced and shaped by the contextual (cultural and political) situations in which they are enacted.

Around the World in 22 Days will include five units:

Unit 1: A Mini Tour of Reasons for Learning (and Teaching) English

Unit 2: TESOL Approaches

Unit 3: Linguistic, Cultural, and Political Influences (with examples from the For Better or For Worse comic strip)

Unit 4: Global Programs (Peace Corp, Peacekeeping English, and World Teach)

Unit 5: Independent Research on English Language Teaching in a Global Context
