NC Policy Watch Internship

If you are passionate and want to change the world, if you care about social justice and can write well, we have an internship opportunity for you.

NC Policy Watch is a public policy organization with a simple mission: to change the way our elected officials debate the important issues facing North Carolina and, ultimately, to improve the quality of life in the state by convincing state leaders to make the kinds of investments in people and institutions that allow us to address our most pressing problems.

To advance this ambitious agenda, NC Policy Watch generates a steady flow of timely, accurate and hard-hitting commentaries and analyses that challenge North Carolina leaders to chart a new and better course. Most of our work is accessible on our web site (www.ncpolicywatch.com) or our blog (http://pulse.ncpolicywatch.org)

The NC Policy Watch intern will assist staff members in gathering information from various organizations, researching policy issues, attending legislative committee meetings and preparing regular communications. The successful candidate should have excellent writing and communication skills, be proficient in MS Office applications, and have an interest in public policy and a desire to improve the public discussion of important issues affecting North Carolinians. Only candidates currently enrolled in college will be considered for this position. Special consideration will be given to candidates studying journalism, law, public administration, or politics.

This is a temporary, part-time position working 10-20 hours per week from May-August, 2007. Work hours are somewhat flexible, but ideally the majority of work will be done on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at our offices in downtown Raleigh. This position pays $10 per hour and provides a parking pass.

To apply, send a cover letter, resume and an editorial commentary (300-500 words) demonstrating your passion for an issue to: A. Plummer, NC Policy Watch, P.O. Box 12800, Raleigh, NC 27605. You can also email your application to: aplummer@ajf.org.
