The Pendulum (Olivia Hubert-Allen, editor)

    • The student newspaper is not just about writing anymore. Join The Pendulum and you’ll be able to write, photograph, shoot and edit video, design pages, design Web pages, create podcasts and live blog from important events. Elon’s weekly, student-produced newspaper is put out by 20 editors and 50-100 other staffers. The paper’s online and traditional versions cover major sports events, internationally recognized speakers, entertainment and the campus community. Editors are paid a small stipend for their work. Pendulum staff members have many opportunities to meet with professional editors and reporters and travel to attend national media conferences sponsored by the Associated Collegiate Press, College Media Advisers and Columbia Scholastic Press. The Pendulum is located in its own building on Williamson Avenue. The group’s adviser is Colin Donohue.

ESTV (Drake Springer, general manager)

     • Elon Student Television was created in 1992 by student Christopher Waters. Hundreds of students work in some capacity each year in the production of programming for ESTV. The group divides its programming into three categories: entertainment, news and sports. “Phoenix14News” is Elon’s live weekly newscast. Other programming includes “Win Stuff,” “Road Trip” and “etc.” ESTV is always looking to produce more shows and encourages students to pitch their ideas. The group’s adviser is Linda Lashendock.

WSOE-FM (Erin Fox, general manager)

     • Elon’s student radio station celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008. It has a number of paid positions on its executive staff. It’s signal reaches as far as Greensboro, N.C., to the west and Durham, N.C., to the east and is broadcast 24 hours a day. Select staff members attend such national conferences as the annual National Association of Broadcasters meetings and College Music Journal’s annual Music Marathon. The group’s adviser is Bryan Baker.

Phi Psi Cli (Preston Stanley, editor)

     • Elon’s yearbook was founded in 1913 and is named for the first three literary societies on campus. It traditionally carries sections covering Student Life, People, Sports, Organizations, Arts, Study Abroad and Academics. The fall 2008 edition is the 93rd edition, and it covers the 2007-08 academic year. The books are distributed free to students. The group employs several student editors, and its adviser is Randy Piland.

Colonnades
http://org.elon.edu/colonnades/

     • Its name taken from the structures that pervade the campus architecture, Colonnades is a student-run organization that unites students, faculty, staff, and organizations in the annual printing of one literary and art publication. Colonnades awards writers and authors for their work in art, photography, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. A panel of independent judges selects the works. Its advisers are Drew Perry and Cassie Kircher

Cinelon (Ryan Mintz, president)

     • Cinelon is both a resource for student filmmakers and a source of motivation. It advances the study of cinema through practical experience and cooperative learning by providing a forum for students to produce and study cinema outside of the classroom. Projects are generated by Cinelon members and outside groups looking for narrative, commercial and music video productions. It also serves as a support system for student filmmakers looking to fill crew positions or network with current and former students. Cinelon is the place for students who love cinema to make, watch and discuss it. The adviser for this organization is Peter Kiwitt.
