Greensboro Symphony Orchestra to perform Holiday Pops Concert Dec. 21

Celebrate the season with a special Elon performance by the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra in Alumni Gym at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21.

The Fox Holiday Concert is a benefit for the Alamance County Salvation Army. Admission is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item.

The orchestra, conducted by Bruce Kiesling, will perform religious and secular holiday favorites, and will include a sing-along and visit by Santa Claus. Also performing will be the Choral Society of Greensboro, and two guest soloists, tenor Anthony Griffey and country singer Lisa Dames.

Griffey has captured critical and popular acclaim on opera, concert and
recital stages worldwide. In the
2008-2009 season Griffey is performing leading roles with many of
America’s premiere opera houses, to include appearances with Opera
Philadelphia as Florestan in Fidelio, the Portland Opera as Peter Quint
in Turn of the Screw, and the San Diego Opera in the title role of
Peter Grimes. His extensive concert schedule includes an appearance
with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, performances of Mahler’s Eighth
Symphony with the New York Philharmonic under Maestro Lorin Maazel, the
San Francisco Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas,
the Zürich Tonhalle Orchester under Maestro David Zinman, as well as
with the Milwaukee Symphony.

Other guests include WMAG radio personality Bill Flynn, who will conduct a number, Scottish bagpiper Sir Robert Bell, and Fox 8 news anchors Neil McNeil and Julie Luck.
