Live Oak Communications, a student-run, full-service communications agency started by the School of Communications, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the fall of 2009. Live Oak Communications has already worked to develop and execute client programs in the North Carolina region, including both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Services offered include public relations, advertising, special event marketing, viral marketing, media relations, web site development, video creation and graphic design. Students from all majors and years are encouraged to apply for specific positions. All hired positions receive class credit as well as gain professional experience.

“Live Oak is seeking students with excellent writing skills, as well as enthusiasm, resourcefulness, creativity and critical thinking skills,” said Professor Lee Bush, faculty director for the agency. “The agency is also interested in applicants with visual technology expertise, including video and film production and graphic design. This is a great way for students to build a professional identity and portfolio while gaining experience on real client projects.”

In this past semester, Live Oak worked for seven different clients both on and off campus. Our clients from last semester include Earth Share of North Carolina, a federation of local and regional environmental organizations, the Alamance Veterinary Hospital, and Pro Feet socks, the second largest sock manufacturer in the country.

To further serve client needs, Live Oak has particular interest in students with art, business, or design backgrounds, as well as communications’ expertise. Students may apply by filling out an application and returning it by April 24 to Professor Lee Bush, Campus Box 2850, or by turning it into the School of Communications office.

Interviews will be conducted in early May by the director and assistant director.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

Account Executive:
The term “account executive” is a professional communications term used to describe individuals who work on a specific client account. Live Oak is structured into client teams made up of AE’s who write and pitch stories to the media, organize events, and do whatever is necessary to achieve their client’s communications needs. All majors and years are welcome to apply.

Team Leaders:
Team leaders are in charge of “leading” individual accounts for clients. Along with a group of account executives, the team leader will develop and ensure that each client reaches its particular communications goals. Duties include developing campaign plans and delegating responsibilities among AE’s. All majors are welcome to apply. Applicants must be of junior or senior status during fall of 2009.

Creative Team Executives:
Live Oak’s newest and most artistic arm of the agency, creative executives, will work with client account teams to develop creative elements such as logos and other graphic identities, web sites, advertising layouts, online videos and more. Students applying for this position should have a strong artistic interest in visual technology. This opportunity would be a great way to add material to any art, business, or communications portfolio. All majors and years are welcome to apply.

Assistant Director:
The assistant director will work closely with the director and faculty director to oversee Live Oak Communications’ budget, account teams, and promotional material. The assistant director will be paid for the semester and will have the opportunity to apply for director the following year. All majors are welcome to apply. Applicants must be of junior status during the fall of 2009.
