Jessie Moore presents as invited speaker at symposium

Jessie Moore, assistant professor of professional writing and rhetoric, was an invited speaker at the 2009 Symposium on Second Language Writing in Tempe, Ariz., Nov. 5-7.

Moore presented with colleagues from four other universities about “Institutionalizing L2 Writing” within larger professional organizations. The speakers collectively reflected on their involvements in the efforts to institutionalize second-language writing at the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Moore discussed why institutionalization at TESOL was important to her and to the field of second-language writing, how second language writing was integrated into the larger organizational structure of TESOL, and what second-language writing specialists active at other organizations might learn from the experience.

Moore was the founding chair-elect of the Second Language Writing Interest Section at TESOL and serves on the Committee for Second Language Writing and Writers at CCCC.
