Stargazing in the Park

Visitors at the 2009 Northeast Park stargazing event view the moon through a telescope.

The Elon University Physics Department and the Alamance County Astronomy Club will hold an evening of stargazing at Northeast Park. The event follows last year’s successful “100 Hours of Astronomy” and “Galilean Nights” star parties in celebration of the International Year of Astronomy,

We will have several telescopes for viewing craters on the Moon, the Orion Nebula, Saturn, and Mars. Students will also point out constellations and describe the different telescopes on display. Admission is free and open to the public.

The event is scheduled for Friday, April 23, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. If cloudy weather forces us to postpone the stargazing, we will reschedule for Saturday, April 24th. Call (336) 278-6328 after 7 p.m. to find out if we will indeed be having the event.
