Seven faculty members, students, and alumni help build the Mountains-to-Sea Trail

Seven faculty members, students and alumni helped May 8 to build a 2-mile portion in Alamance County of the state's 1,000-mile-long Mountains-to-Sea Trail.

The Mountains-to-Sea Trail, a long-distance hiking trail, goes from Clingman’s Dome in Western North Carolina to Jockey’s Ridge in the Outer Banks. Since the trail was first conceived in 1977, the Alamance County portion has consisted mostly of bicycle paths on rural roads.

A new effort is underway to connect the MST through Alamance County with portions of the Haw River Trail and other local backcountry trails to provide a more pleasant, natural hiking experience.

News 14 Carolina covered the event at the new Shallow Ford Natural Area. Click on the link to the right to watch the segment.

Seven faculty, staff and students joined 14 other community members for a day of hard labor, building 2 miles of this 1000-mile trail.
