Elon professors speak at Sullivan Social Entrepreneurship Fall Retreat

Elon professors Ken Hassell and Tom Arcaro were part of the Sullivan Social Entrepreneurship Fall Retreat held in Hendersonville, N.C., from Nov. 5-7, 2010.

Hassell and Arcaro acted as facilitators at the inaugural retreat held in partnership with Ashoka University. The retreat brought together students and faculty from nine select southeastern private liberal arts colleges.

The theme of the retreat, “How will you use your degree & career to change the world?”, focused on introducing the students to the ideas of social entrepreneurship. Hassell, an associate professor of art, presented a talk and slide show about issues related to the Appalachian region.

Arcaro, a professor of sociology and director of Project Pericles, talked to the faculty about the Periclean Scholars model at Elon University, and he continues to act as an advisor to the Sullivan Foundation on this new initiative.
