First-year law students establish canned food drive

During the Winter Term, members of Elon Law's Leadership Fellows program initiated a canned food drive in support of Greensboro Urban Ministries, organizing the drive as a competition among teams of students in the course Lawyering, Leadership and Professionalism.

The class collected a total of 861 cans of food, which will be provided to individuals and families in need throughout the Greensboro community.

“The 1L class really rallied together to make a difference,” said Leadership Fellow, Andy Jones. “Our strong support of the food bank shows the Greensboro community that Elon Law students are serious about the importance of service and civic engagement in our legal education.”

“The 1L Leadership Fellows decided to initiate a canned food drive in the hopes that we could boost our class morale while also showcasing the opportunities afforded to Leadership Fellows and bettering the Greensboro community,” said Leadership Fellow Sherea’ Burnett.

“The members of the class of 2013 exhibited their desire to give back to their communities long before coming to Elon Law,” said Leadership Fellow Jason Senges. “The canned food drive is one of the many ways the Leadership Fellows will assist the Class of 2013 in achieving their goal of actively giving back to our community over the next three years.”

The winning student group received a lunch hosted by law school dean George Johnson and other faculty members.

Members of that group included: Jonathan Bain, Daniel Bell, Katlyn Brahmer , Grant Buckner, Morgan Canady, Shanna Cassetta, Micah Cooper, Bryce Couture, Robert Cratch, Brett Dewitt, Elizabeth Duncan, Willie Fennell, Eddie Holder, and Michael Koeltzow.
