“Don’t Trash It!” returns for semester’s end

As you clean out your dorm room or apartment this month, instead of tossing furniture and clothing that you couldn't sell on E-net into the nearest trash bin, consider a donation to area charities that are working in coordination with the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life and the Office of Sustainability to help others in the community while minimizing the amount of waste dumped into local landfills.

On-Campus Events:

Habitat for Humanity Restore Furniture Collection
Dates: Thursday, May 12 – Tuesday, May 24 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Location: Back Parking Lot of Elon Community Church
Collecting: Gently used furniture, working appliances, house wares, and lamps. Donations will be used by HFH in their “ReStore” resale location to provide funds to work with local families in need of decent, affordable housing. (www.restorealamance.com)

Residence Life furniture/Clothing Collection
Dates: May 13-20

Collecting: Gently used furniture, working appliances, lamps, and usable clothing.

Used Bicycle Collection
Dates: May 12-24, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Location: Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life (across from tennis courts)
Collecting: Bicycles that are in good working condition. Please advise a staff member or leave a note if you leave a bike All donated bicycles will be given to the Allied Churches emergency shelter in downtown Burlington. Residents will use these bicycles to get around town and to and from work.

E-cycle: Used Electronics Collection
Date: Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Elon Community Church Back Parking Lot
Collecting: Unwanted computers, monitors, fax machines, video game equipment and video games, computer cables, routers and modems, cell phones, unopened ink cartridges and other small electronics. Proceeds will benefit the Triad Goodwill.

Loaves & Fishes
Loaves & Fishes is a local food ministry that provides groceries to hungry families in Alamance County and the five surrounding counties. They take donations of any nonperishable food in cans, boxes or bags, perishable food in good condition, frozen food, fresh fruits and vegetables in season, baby formula and food, toilet paper, diapers (infant and adult), and cat or dog food.
