‘Colonnades’ Art and Literary Journal is Now Hiring

“Colonnades,” Elon University’s Art and Literary Journal, is currently looking for staff members.

“Colonnades” publishes the best student fiction, poetry, nonfiction and art. The 2009-10 edition, “Public Spaces,” won a national Magazine Pacemaker award from the Associated Collegiate Press, and the current issue, “The Physics of Want,” has been named a Magazine Pacemaker finalist again. (Pacemaker winners will be awarded in Orlando, Fla., at the end of October.)

Positions available include:

Literature Editor

  • Responsible for organizing the fiction, poetry and nonfiction editors.
  • Responsible for reading all the submissions
  • Serve as an intermediary between the sections and the editor-in-chief.
  • Applicant must have taken at least two intermediate level courses in fiction, poetry and nonfiction.
  • This position requires leadership and dedication.

Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction Editors

  • Responsible for reading all entries in their specific genre and decide on which pieces make the cut.
  • Applicants must have taken the intermediate level course associated with their genre.

Art Editor

  • Responsible for selecting which art pieces make the cut.
  • Applicants should have some intermediate level classes in the visual arts.
  • Keen and critical eye for selecting good work.

The Design Editor

  • Responsible for the layout and overall design of the print copy of “Colonnades.”
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, as well as experience in producing high quality design work. 
  • Design Editor hopefuls are strongly encouraged to submit a portfolio and/or produce a mockup to illustrate his or her vision and talent.

The Web Editor 

  • A new position created to help establish “Colonnades’” web presence. 
  • Responsible for creating two main websites for the magazine (one for the fall and one for the spring) at elon.edu/colonnades
  • Maintain the year-round WordPress account, on which content will be posted on a rolling basis. 
  • Web Editor must have experience with Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

  2. Any applicable classes you have taken, and experience in other organizations or relevant extra-curriculars.
  3. What your vision for the position would be.
