Attendees at a NASCAR viewing party this weekend will have a chance to win a new car as five Elon students take part in a national marketing competition.

Someone could drive away with a new car Sunday afternoon at a NASCAR viewing party co-hosted by a team of Elon University students taking part in a national competition that currently has them in second place.
What: NASCAR Kinetics Viewing Party
Where: ACE Speedway (3401 Altamahaw Race Track Road, Elon, NC 27244)
When: Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m.

Over the last month and a half, students Ryan Vet, Eric Carroll, Alyssa King, Michelle Nadler and Kevin Simon have been taking part in the NASCAR Kinetics Marketing Competition, a marketing competition between 20 universities across the nation vying for a trip to Miami to meet with the heads of NASCAR.
The collaborative effort between the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and Professor Coleman Rich, and the Department of Sport & Event Management, with Assistant Professor Tony Weaver and Associate Professor Hal Walker leading the SEM students.
Students have participated in a case study about Michael Waltrip Racing, Aaron’s, and social media, as well as a case study about how to incorporate Dodge into the NASCAR realm more efficiently. Their work has landed them in second place following the first case study (behind the University of Central Florida). No other first-year team has been ranked in the top three.
Their initiatives come to an end this Sunday with a viewing part of the Martinsville NASCAR race at ACE Speedway starting at 1:30 p.m. The team will be offering games and prizes leading up to the grand prize opportunity for two participants to win a brand new 2012 Chevy Cruze.
