Elon Army cadets attend training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Elon Army ROTC cadets traveled to Fort Jackson in South Carolina last weekend to conduct a field training exercise. The Elon cadets accompanied the rest of Aggie Battalion, based out of NC A&T State University to Fort Jackson to prepare for Operation Warrior Forge 2012. The cadets engaged in day and night land navigation, during which they traveled through woods looking for points at specific grid coordinates using only a compass, protractor and map.

The cadets also tackled an obstacle course, a field leaders reaction course, and rappelled from a 34-foot tower by tying their own harnesses with a method called the “Swiss seat.” While participating in these activities, the cadets rotated leadership positions and were evaluated on their display of the Army Leadership Dimensions. These leadership opportunities are vital in preparing for Operation Warrior Forge 2012, as well as becoming future lieutenants.
