Chad Awtrey presents at number theory conference

Chad Awtrey, assistant professor of mathematics, presented a research talk on p-adic numbers at the Palmetto Number Theory Series in Clemson, SC, on December 3-4, 2011.

Awtrey’s talk, “Dodecic 3-adic fieds,” discussed his techniques for determining fundamental characteristics for a certain class of p-adic numbers. In particular, the talk focused on 3-adic numbers which arise as solutions to degree 12 polynomial equations and arithmetic invariants associated with these polynomials.

A corresponding paper has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Number Theory.
