Religious diversity “stakeholder” launch in the Oaks – Feb. 7

The university community is invited to attend a campus-wide meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 11-12:10 in the Oaks room 212 to talk about the results and implications of a recent student, staff and faculty survey about religious diversity and interfaith cooperation on our campus.

Elon is currently engaged in important research on the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of our students with respect to religious pluralism. We have committed significant resources to exploring these issues on campus and have engaged the Interfaith Youth Core from Chicago (www.ifyc.org) to serve as our consultants on this project. You may remember IFYC from last April’s convocation, where Eboo Patel (IFYC’s founder) was one of the panelists.

Our work with IFYC this year will be focused on (a) assessing Elon’s campus climate in relation to religious/spiritual diversity and understanding and (b) making recommendations for how to advance a culture of interfaith cooperation at Elon based on existing assets and areas for growth. This work is part of Elon’s commitment to diversity and global engagement (Theme One of The Elon Commitment strategic plan).

On Tuesday, February 7th from 11:00-12:10 in the Oaks room 212, two representatives from IFYC will be on campus to discuss the results and implications of the survey. I invite you to attend this meeting to learn more and to consider ways you might be engaged in this important topic.
