Jeff Carpenter, assistant professor of education, and Bird Stasz, associate professor of education, presented at last week’s 56th Annual Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Carpenter and Stasz were on a panel titled “Finding the Middle Ground: Success and Challenges in Education Reform in Tajikistan.” They were joined on the panel by Fayziddin Niyozov, of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Creative Associates, and Adbujabbor Rahmonov, minister of education of Tajikistan from 2005 to 2012 and currently Rector of Tajik State Pedagogical University. Both Carpenter and Stasz have consulted for USAID’s Quality Learning Project in Tajikistan; the project is administered by Creative Associates International.
Carpenter gave a second presentation at the conference as part of a panel titled, “As Education Technology Comes of Age: Replacing Clunky Technology Solutions with Lean, Green, Interactive (and appropriate) Machines.” He spoke about the experiences of USAID’s Quality Learning Project in Turkmenistan with training teachers in sound pedagogical uses of interactive whiteboards and classroom response systems.
Carpenter was joined on the panel by Amira Shoukry of Creative Associates International, Egypt, and Edward Kavishe of Kicheko Dot Com, a Tanzanian Educational Technology provider.
