Lunchtime workshop: Helping Students Manage Complex Group Projects

Lunchtime workshop on Jan. 8 with Rebecca Pope-Ruark

Group projects are important learning opportunities, but students often find collaborating and managing the project work to be a challenge. This workshop will introduce you to “Kanban,” an easy-to-use strategy for breaking projects down into small, accomplishable tasks and visualizing group progress.

Kanban has been used widely in the software industry, and some faculty now are adapting it for classroom use to help students improve group communication, pay more attention to detail, keep group members accountable, and achieve a higher likelihood of success. In this practical workshop, we will consider whether and how to adapt Kanban in different courses, and also consider how it might help us manage our own research and service projects.

Workshop will be held from 11:45am-1:15pm in Lindner 206.  Lunch will be served.  Please RSVP at the following link:  http://tinyurl.com/CATLWT2013
