Biscuitville grand opening celebration – Sept. 4

A ribbon cutting in Lakeside Dining Hall for the legendary North Carolina restaurant chain takes place Wednesday at 11 a.m. with remarks by university and Biscuitville leaders, and the announcement of winners from a student contest.

Elon University will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Sept. 4 to welcome the North Carolina-based Biscuitville restaurant chain to Lakeside Dining Hall’s Winter Garden Café.

The celebration begins at 11 a.m. with remarks from Elon University President Leo M. Lambert, Biscuitville CEO Burney Jennings ’87 and Jay Faircloth ’80, senior director of strategic and business development for ARAMARK, the university’s food service provider.

Jennings, a member of the Elon University Board of Trustees, also will announce the two winners of a Biscuitville contest that had been open to current Elon students.

Biscuitville specializes in Southern comfort food and is best known for its family biscuit recipe prepared by hand every 20 minutes in front of customers. Pork sausage, griddle-cooked bacon, Southern-fried chicken and local country ham are the most popular items. Healthy alternatives include whole wheat English Muffins and turkey sausage. Sides include seasoned country fries and hashbrowns.

It also was one of the most highly rated and requested restaurant chains to be cited earlier this year in a student survey about potential dining options on Elon University’s campus.

Biscuitville, which joins Topio’s and Freshii in the Winter Garden Café, will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Traditional breakfast items will be available all day and additional lunch and dinner options will include an Angus burger, turkey burger, grilled chicken sandwich and chicken tenders. All lunch and dinner options are available on a delicious Biscuitville biscuit.

With long and distinguished ties to Elon University, Maurice Jennings ’57, Burney’s father, founded a food company in 1966 in Burlington, N.C. The first Biscuitville location opened in 1975, and the company now operates 58 locations in North Carolina and Virginia.

Other dining options new to campus this fall include Qdoba Mexican Grill in the Daniel Commons inside the Danieley Neighborhood.
