The competitive, national scholarship from the world’s largest professional association for electronic news professionals will award Puckett $1,000 in honor of nine former RTDNA presidents. Puckett serves as a senior reporter for Elon Local News, Elon University’s award-winning, student-produced newscast. He has also worked as the show’s anchor and assignment editor in the past.

With ELN, he has covered numerous on-campus stories, reported live from the 2012 Democratic National Convention and anchored a live 7-hour election show in November 2012. Puckett has interned at CBS News’ “60 Minutes” and WSOC-TV in Charlotte, N.C.

“Being chosen as a recipient of the President’s Scholarship is truly an amazing honor,” Puckett told RTDNA. “Some of my best college experiences have come about through my participation in RTDNA activities. This scholarship will allow me to continue my reporting and storytelling at Elon as I finish out my senior year and prepare to enter the workforce.”

This is the fourth year in a row an Elon student has won a President’s Scholarship. This year’s other President’s Scholarship winner is a student from Hofstra University.
