The award was presented to senior Joe Bruno, news director of Elon Local News; sophomore Lauren Cook, producer; and junior Katie Maraghy, ELN Morning’s first executive producer. Seniors Jeff Ackermann and Elizabeth Kantlehner, juniors Brian Mezerski and Jasmine Turner, sophomores Ashley McGetrick and Matt Lee, and faculty advisor Rich Landesberg attended the awards show and reception.

“I always tell my students that they should never work for awards but should always strive to do award-winning work,” Landesberg said.  “It is gratifying when a prestigious organization like the Television Academy Foundation recognizes the hard work and high quality of Elon Local News.”

The College Television Award was the first for ELN Morning, which launched in April 2013. Late Night with Jack Carpenter, a late-night talk show from Champlain College, placed first.

“It took a vision, hard work and a passionate staff to win this award so early in the show’s life,” Bruno said. “It is an honor to receive this award from the Television Academy Foundation.”

While in Los Angeles, students had the opportunity to network with industry professionals. Actor Scott Wolf presented the award.

“The whole experience was an eye-opening opportunity to see the influence student media can have on the industry,” Maraghy said.

ELN Morning airs live every Tuesday at 9:50 a.m on ESTV.
