National Day on Writing – Oct. 20

Celebrate the National Day on Writing through one of the many events being planned on campus from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 20.

The Writing Excellence Initiative and the Writing Center are hosting events across campus to celebrate writing in all its forms: through photos, film and graphics; with pens, pencils and computers; in graphs, etchings and murals; on sidewalks, screens and paper.

All events being held on Oct. 20 will be from noon to 4 p.m. Participants will earn collectors buttons at each installation, so come out and collect them all!

1. “Design a Meme” Contest for Students
Students are invited to design a digital meme related to writing. The memes will be shared via the WEI Facebook page and on e-boards in the Writing Center. One grand prize winner will win a “Writer’s Tool Kit,” which includes merchandise valuing over $100. Prizes will be awarded to six runner ups as well! Submit your Meme on the WEI Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ElonWEI.

2. Sidewalk Talk
Come out to the concrete walkway right near the Lakeside Patio edges to participate in a writing activity using sidewalk chalk. Writing Prompt: Where are you from and what would you like the Elon community to know about your hometown?

3. Community Advice Board
Come to the first floor of the Belk Library outside the Writing Center and add to the “Elon Community Advice Board.” Grab a “Tip Slip” and post your topic on our Advice Board for all to read!

4. “I ‘heart’ my Elon Community” Graffiti Wall
Come write your favorite thing about the Elon community on the glass board in Moseley.
