Elon senior to compete in 2015 National Miss Plus USofA Competition

Elon University senior Yasmine Arrington has been officially accepted as a contestant in the 2015 National Miss Plus USofA Competition.

Arrington will represent the District of Columbia in a contest that takes place from Aug. 12-15, 2015, in Seattle. Her platform is mentoring and support for children of incarcerated parents.

The strategic communications and history double major from Washington, D.C., founded ScholarCHIPS, which provides scholarships and mentoring to high school seniors who are pursuing a college degree but whose parents are in prison.

Arrington is coached by Camille France, formally Miss Camille Lewis, who was fourth-runner up in the Miss America 2003 competition. France taught music to Arrington when the Elon student was in high school.

According to its website, Miss Plus USofA is a national competition for unmarried women, who wear a double-digit size, with a mission “to provide a platform and opportunity for the average size woman through tasteful competition, requiring a healthy lifestyle, class, eloquence and volunteerism.“
