Elon Model United Nations send two delegations to opposite sides of the country

Eight students went to Princeton and 12 went to the University of Florida for conferences over the weekend of Feb. 21-22, 2015.

Elon has sent delegates to Princeton before and has continued the streak of award winning. Sophomore Nick Rhyne won best delegate and gaveled for UAE Minister of Interior. Sophomore Gabriel Corbett won Verbal Accommodation for Qatar Minister of Justice and Sophomore Benjamin Lutz won Honorable Mention for Iraq Minister of Human Rights. The other outstanding delegates that attended the Princeton included Senior and President of Elon Model United Nations Nicole Molinaro, Junior Alexandra Cantone, Sophomore Mike Rossi, and Freshmen Dani Khoury and Spencer Wagner. Professor Chalmers Brumbaugh attended as the advisor.

For the first time, Elon sent 12 delegates to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. They enjoyed warm weather, sunshine, and a great conference. Senior and Treasurer of Model United Nations Ryan Lasnick won Outstanding Delegate for Chief of Staff in Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Cabinet. The other eleven delegates include: Freshmen Erin Bishop, Lindsey DeLorey, Chace Blackburn and Karl-Luis Neubig, Sophomore Summer Taylor, Juniors Ryan McElroy, Albert Waters, Gordon Saltzberg and Declan Cleary, and Seniors Broadway Jackson III and Dash Jepson. Proffessor John Strange attended alongside delegates as their advisor.

Alongside awards, both delegations enjoyed the opportunity and met a lot of students from other schools. They attended planned socials and made connections.

The teams look forward to hosting their own collegiate conference, ECCo, from April 17-19.
